The Runescape Times is looking for reporters!

Since this web page is getting a little bigger and I have to work on other things on it, I now need reporters to find stories. I'm looking for mabye 3 people who will be willing to go around Runescape and find a good event for me to publish. I'll get on Runescape anywhere between 4:00 - 9:00 P.M. on weekdays and anytime during the day on weekends and holidays. I of course can't pay you but I will ethier add your name or Runescape name at the bottem to show that it's your story. No pay but good publicity for your name. If you want the job then leave a comment at the bottem of this issue and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Daily Runescape Advise

Computer running slow? Have bad graphics? Need a new one all together? Check out deals on Toshiba's. Toshiba Satellite computers are on sale for $599 with $200 of free merchandise including a free printer, wireless router, and a bag. I should have an ad somewhere on my site with a link going to the website so you can look at it. If you want to look at the ad, go to the archives and click on Issue #3 and keep hitting refresh until you see the ad at the side or bottem. Oh and make sure it has a good computer audio system. If you don't your computers sound will sound high pitched and wierd, like my computer.

Zezima Gets Level 99 In All Stats!

Zezima, Runescapes top player, has recently reached level 99 in every level. Having a total level of 2,079 he surpasses The Old Nite, Runescape's second top player with a total level of 2,058, by 21 levels. Until a new skill is released Zezima won't have anything to do besides actually play the game, so expect to see him a lot more in castle wars and other mini games. Last I saw him, which was quite a while back, he had 88 farming and he was at the going away party for one of Jagex's Mods.

New Quest! Shadow of the Storm!

Words going round Al Kharid that a monk has arrived and is looking for the adventurer who saved Varrock from Delrith. A group of dark wizards is planning to set another demon loose on the world, and the only way to foil their plot is from within! And this time it's no minor demon like Delrith, but a demon-lord with great magical powers. Take up an old sword, dress to impress an evil wizard, and discover forbidden demon-lore under the Shadow of the Storm. This quest features further expansion to the Demon Slayer and Golem storylines and some very unique characters to meet along the way.

Massive Runescape Glitch!

Earlier today there was a glitch in the Runescape programing in world 58 in which when you pick pocketed a man you would get 300 gold instead of 3!

Once Jagex caught on they made it so if you failed you would get kicked off of Runescape temporarily so they could buy time in order to fix the mess. Now the glitch is fixed and you once again only get 3 gold for pickpocketing a man. While the glitch was active, the world was completely full and at least half of it was in the same spot stealing from men!

Give Barrows A Try

Have 600,000 sitting in your bank and don't know what to do with it? Well buy yourself a few prayer potions and head to barrows. I use barrows myself to make money and I have always gotten at least one item per 50 prayer potions. If you've tried it before but can't get any armor then try this. Instead of only killing the six barrows brothers, kill off a couple of lesser enemies too. Just a few days ago I got my kill count from 6 to 11 and got veracs helm and a dragon medium helmet in just 2 runs! If there's a certain rune you want, or a guide on what to bring, check below. Look at the forums, or better yet, while you're reading this load it up. Now go to the events forum. What do you see? I'll bet that at least ONE of those threads has the word "Medici" in it, whether it be in the title or on the front page. This is the name of Runescape's first and biggest corporation/charity. They have everything from malls, to inns, to restaurants (Which I happen to work at). All or most of their profits go to helping things like public party's, theatres (See last issue), and new ideas. They were started over two years ago and are still going strong as Runescape's biggest organized corporation.
Next time you need that extra 100 seeds or 50 pieces of leather but no one seems to have any, check out the "~~~Medici Mall~~~" in the events forum. Or maybe you want to reward your clan from a successful pking trip, then try the "~~Medici Catering Service~~" to get you all the food you need! This and many other Medici threads can be found in the events forum. Want to join up with them? Look up "Medici Recruitment" in the clan recruitment forum and get to work!

Tip Of The Day

Playing Castle Wars and want to be the hero but can't seem to score? Take all the back routes. Go underground route or the skipping stones. I recomend the underground because that way you can avoid all the mages and rangers. Be sure to bring a pick or exploding potions because the rocks that block your path will slow you down quite a bit. People underground trying to kill you? Take the skipping stones. That way you'll avoid all the melees in the center and and you'll still get around.

The Runescape Times Gets A New Look

Since the old newspaper took up a lot of space and only displayed two topics, I've decided to change it! Now you'll be able to find things much easier and I've added more topics give you a better feel like it's an actual newspaper. If you haven't already noticed, I've added a crossword which I'll update daily, and an ad area. The ads are whatever ads you want there. It's completely free, all you have to do is give me an advertisement and I'll post it for all to see. The ads can be bank sales, drop parties, or anything else related to Runescape. Best of all, it's completely free!

Making History + Minor Changes

Making History
For generations, an outpost has been standing North of Ardougne. It was placed to detect incoming invaders before they had the chance to strike the fort of Ardougne. Many people have lived in this outpost, only now its current occupant - Jorral - is desperately asking for help.
Jorral has discovered that King Lathas of Ardougne recently decided this 'worthless' outpost should be revamped. He plans to make this into a new alchemists' lab for his own private (and some say corrupt) work. Jorral strongly believes that the outpost has a deep and meaningful history, but try as he might he just can't piece it together. He would like you to discover this history so that he may stop this mockery and convince the king of better plans for the building.
Jorral says he's sure you'll be rewarded with some useful artifact, even if he has to find something from his own collection of historical relics!
As you search for this history, you'll be taken on a hunt for buried treasure that you can continue after the quest, with unique rewards awaiting you at the end. Although this quest is aimed at mid-level players, we hope higher level players will enjoy piecing together some of the early tales of Ardougne, as well as the chance to wield a new kind of weapon.
So how about it, are you talented enough to make history?
Other small changes

The 6th Barrow Wight
Players opening the chest at the end of the Barrows will now confront the final brother, assuming they havent met him already while progressing through the crypt. This will save players having to run backwards and forwards through doors to try and encounter him.

Agility shortcuts
Agility potions will now help players use all of the agility shortcuts we added earlier in the year.

19 December 2005 - Christmas update for all players

This update is for free and member accounts - Happy Christmas!!
Diango needs help - the Pixie workers whom he hired to help in his workshop aren't working out. They're so accident prone that despite all their hard work, they're getting nothing done. Find Diango down in the Draynor market and he'll tell you where his workshop is. Once there, you’ll need to put together some marionettes and paint some baubles, as well as packing them into the appropriate boxes. Talk to the local pixies for more information on what exactly to do once you're down in the workshop.
Once you've finished at least one box-load of puppets, you'll be required to drop them off at the Taverley Members' Gate, where a familiar face will be waiting for you. Completing boxes of puppets will earn you a special woolly hat! If you want to, complete more boxes for even more rewards. Different hats can be achieved by completing 1,2,4 and 8 boxes.
You can also give some boxes of baubles to Rosie, the pixie supervisor. Completed boxes will earn you a special colourful scarf! As with the puppets, more completed boxes will result in different scarves when you complete 1,2,4 or 8 boxes. Rosie has unfortunately had several problems with Imps invading the workshop and stealing all the baubles, so if you don’t fancy painting them, you can always retrieve them from the Christmas imps hanging around the Varrock Xmas tree. Don’t forget you’ll still need to pack them in boxes before you can give them back to Rosie.
Finally, those pesky Imps have not only stolen Rosie’s baubles, but all the ones from the Varrock tree too. What is it with Imps anyway? Why are they such thieves? Where do they live anyway? Can they fly? If they can teleport, how come they never drop runes when they die? Rest assured, none of those questions will be answered in this update. However, if you take 5 boxes of decorations, you can decorate the tree yourself! Those that do so will find a special marionette for them under the tree.
If you should be unfortunate enough to misplace or lose your marionette, you can get another one from the large box by the ladder to the pixie workshop. Lost scarves and hats can be retrieved from Diango himself.
Please note - The Christmas event will be removed on the 4th of January. The hats, scarves and gift marionettes will remain for those who've taken the time to help out Diango, Rosie, the mysterious stranger and decorated the tree in Varrock. All player-made marionettes, their component pieces, baubles and boxes containing each will disappear, including the tree itself. The festive imps, the hooded stranger and Diango's hired workforce will also be moving on after another busy Christmas.

4 January 2006 - Mage Training Arena

Far too many incidents have been brought to light of inexperienced wizards causing some pretty horrific accidents (and we use the word 'accident' very lightly).
So whether you're a mage of experience or you're someone in need of a little training, you'll want to travel north of the Duel Arena to find a grand building of magical design: The Mage Training Arena! In this building, the magical powers of RuneScape seem to have a mind of their own, so you'll find some very unique ways to practice the art of magic whilst collecting points to trade for prizes. Shazzam! There's a great deal on offer: you can have a go at moving statues around mazes with the power of your mind, or perhaps you'd like to try hunting for items to practice the art of alchemy. Or maybe you'd rather live dangerously and try your hand at frantically turning bones to bananas just to stay alive? It's your choice.
If you train long and hard enough, you could be the proud owner of some funky new robes! Trust us - wearing these, you will not go unnoticed as you strut your stuff around the dunes of Al Kharid. There's also the chance to look into upgradable wands and maybe even a new spell...
Intrigued? Why not take a visit and train to become a mage of irrefutable power...
...or at least put an end to those horrific accidents.

28 December 2005 - 6 new Australian servers online!

Hello, I hope you all had a very happy Christmas. We're back to work now, and we've just got six new Australian servers online!
Hosted in Sydney, Australia - these servers have a super fast connection to the main Australian and New Zealand ISPs we tried. This means they should provide a better game for our players from that part of the world.
Players outside Australia/New Zealand on the other hand would be best off sticking to their usual servers. The Australian servers are setup to provide the best connection speeds locally, so may be quite slow from the rest of the world.

The Runescape Theatre Grand Opening

Starting at 8:00 P.M. GMT time on December 20th, Runescape will have it's first live play! The play's called "Dawn Of The Newbs" and will be catered by "The Coffee Cafe" and "The Storm Party Co.". They're still looking for staff if you want to join in on the action. They haven't said where the play's going to be at yet so you'll have to check back every so often. The thread's called "~The Runescape Theatre opening" so you might want to check back there unless I find out where it's going to be sooner.

Runescape Glitch - No World 105

Not much of a glitch, but Jagex seems to have missed a world when adding all the new ones in the past month. If you look at the world screen you'll notice that there's world 103, 104, then 106. One of the more believeable rumors is that it's Runescape's testing server or they just missed that number. A few funny ones are that Jagex dosn't like that number, it's an evil Zamorak number, and it's the world the god war was on.

Do A Quest

Really want to get your levels up but don't want to spend all that time training? Do a quest! That way, you're getting experience and doing something fun. Since prayer is usually boring or takes a lot of money, I suggest that you do Holy Grail, you get 11,000 prayer experience. Need some advise on what quest to do for best experience payout? Leave me a comment and I'll answer ASAP.

UK Ringtones and Wallpapers!

Today we've added a new feature to the website - the Jagex Shop!
Since the shop is very new, it is only available to UK customers for now. If that's successful we are planning on expanding the Shop to cover the US and other countries next.
The first items available in the shop are RuneScape Ringtones and Wallpapers for mobile phones to impress your friends! We're also planning on adding new items for sale on a regular basis.
So if you live in the UK and would like some music or pictures from the game on your mobile phone, visit the Shop now, and liven up your phone. The downloads are reasonably priced and don't require you to subscribe to a service or enter any personal details. You don't even need a credit-card.
Note: We hope to expand the shop quickly, but don't have exact dates planned for new countries/items. We will post further news on the RuneScape main page as soon as we know more - so there is no need to ask Customer Support.

The Rat Catchers quest will have you sneaking about, experimenting with new cat concoctions and, of course, catching rats. All this will give you access to all sorts of cat-related features including a whole new minigame, new growth stages for your cat and the opportunity to give your cat a name.
Gertrude’s friends will introduce you to brand new subterranean areas in some of the world’s most familiar places. Here, being the best cat trainer really begins to pay off as you challenge your friends and foes for glory and the spoils of victory.
Keep your ears peeled for 6 great new audio tracks, and be sure to try out the game’s first interactive musical instrument!
In other news, we have re-balanced the experience points available via the Barbarian Outpost to make the rewards more generous.

Get Those Levels Up

So you want to be up with the big guys in the Fight Pits or want to star Castle Wars? Well then it's time to do some training. Depending on what you train, there's a few options on what I recommend you fight for best experience.

Melee - Since melee's have armor that can withstand loads of beatings, you can fight just about anything. If you're a lower level then I suggest you fight White Knights in Falador. If you're a higher level then fight Lesser Demons on Karjama or Black Demons in Taverly dungeon if you're a really high level.

Mage - Mages have a clear advantage against anything with metal armor,so you too should fight White Knights in Falador if you're a lower level. If you're a higher level you could fight Paladins; but I still like White Knights better.

Ranger - Hitting long range so you don't have to ever take a hit, still getting the job done. If you're a low level then go to Hill Giants by Ardougne or Varrock. If you're a higher level then go to Lesser Demons in Karjama, or Fire Giants in the cave for the Waterfall Quest. If you're a really high level then you can also go to Black Demons and hide in a spot where you can pick them off.

All - Rock Crabs, they're weak, they can't hurt you, and give off 500 experience per kill.

Rise Of The Black Knights

There's a new clan in town, a big one too. They call themselves the "Black Knights" and they wear all black. Black trimmed armor, grey hair, grey boots and gloves, a grey cape, and the new evil Silverlight. Most are pures who are lower than level 50 and only do the Shadow Of The Storm quest to get the new Silverlight. A good lot of them can hit over 20 too. So will you join them? Or fight them? The choice is yours.

Yea I just realized that if you guys try to get on the crossword site, it won't work. It works on my computer but I guess that's just because it's my document. Oh well, I'll keep looking for something that will let me make a crossword.

Take Advantage Of Updates

Every so often Jagex will come up with a new quest or come out with a new item or somehting like that. Most people will go and try to do the quest or get the item or whatever; but a few won't. They sit and wait until someone sells it and pays massiave money for them. For instance, when tribal masks came out people were paying absolute loads of money. I'm talking 5-10 MILLION gp for ONE. Now you can get a full set for under 5k easy.

Recomendations: I recomend you have...Well SOME money, not a lot because the item dosn't usually require too much money, around 100k should be good. Mabye some armor, a weapon, and food.

Plan:If it's a quest, do it. The item you get might be tradeable, then again it might not, just try your luck and see. Once you get your item post on the fourms and sell it off to the highest bidder. If you're a non-member then go to world 1. This should easily get you 1-5 million if you're one of the first people to get it.

Hints & Tips: 1) I suggest you get as many of the items as you can so you get more money quicker.2) Don't settle for items, always ask for cold hard cash. If you have money you can buy the items if you want them, and if you get items then you have to sell the items for money so you can get items you actually want. AKA: Big waste of time.
